computer nook makeover

A makeover of the computer nook has been high up on the list of ‘to-do’s’ around the house, and now I’m super pleased we can tick it off!

Computer Nook Makeover Collage

Our computer nook is located just off to one side of our living/dining area – tucked between the fireplace and the staircase. It’s in a very handy spot, but was in need of a little prettying up and also some storage.

We ummed and ahhed deciding what to do for storage shelves, and then I came across a picture on pinterest where vintage crates were attached to the wall and used as shelving. Hubby approved and said he’d keep an eye out for something suitable at garage sales or the like.

That very afternoon I spotted some crates in Kmart and they were just perfect! Cheap at $12 each, the perfect size and also lightweight enough to hang on the wall. We liked the charcoal colour but decided the nook needed a bit of colour so painted two of them a lovely turquoise.

Not content to stop there, I chose some scrapbooking paper from my stash and cut it into 6 inch squares. Using Mod Podge I glued them to the inside of the crates (after they’d been screwed to the wall to hide the screws) overlapping them roughly here and there as they didn’t fit perfectly.

And this is the nook now:

Computer Nook AFTER collageI love how it turned out, it’s nice to have a properly organised space and it makes me smile everytime I see the pretty crates! There’s also still some room for extra bits and pieces if we need some more storage later down the track.

I had so much fun with the Modge Podge I’m wondering what else I can decorate 😉

It’s been too long between mod podge projects! I know this because I had to get Scott to pry the container open!!

Wow, what a huge difference small changes can make! The scrapbook paper is great – so nice to have something pretty to look at whilst you’re working. Love the chair. X

    Hello Bec,

Wow, that idea with the crates is amazing, so clever! I love how you decorated them first with paint and then with paper! You have many talents indeed! I’m sure you will find more surfaces to decorate!! :)
Just one idea from me: how about adding a little lamp, maybe one to clip on, if desk space is limited? I think it is important to have good lighting at a workspace!
    Enjoy your weekend!
